Free Access and Paid Content

Quick Answer

Escape from Playtime is not free to play at its October 2026 Early Access launch. The Steam base game has a purchase price.

Separate the base game from free DLC

If you see “Free” beside the Founders Pack, check the product name before assuming the entire game costs nothing. DLC adds content to the base game; its listing does not provide a standalone way to play.

What the free Founders Pack includes

The pack contains the Shining Critters cosmetic set, a Retro Smiling Critters Arcade Cabinet for the Perm-A-Lounge, and a Miss Delight player emote.

The four shiny variants for CraftyCorn, KickinChicken, Bubba Bubbaphant, and PickyPiggy become available after their corresponding default characters are unlocked through progression. Claiming a free cosmetic pack does not immediately unlock those characters.

The announced free period is the first 30 days after the October 21 Early Access launch. It is not a promise that the pack will remain free indefinitely. Check its live Steam listing before trying to claim it later.

Beta access does not replace the release purchase

The October Open Beta had a specific play window: October 1 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time through October 4 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. Its distributed codes were only valid during that timeframe.

An old beta code therefore does not establish permanent ownership of the released Early Access game. If you previously tested it and now see a purchase option, check your Steam library and the exact product license rather than expecting the test invitation to cover the release.

Check the price for your region

The introductory discount reduces the base-game price; it does not make the game free. Use your Steam account's storefront and final checkout amount when deciding whether to buy. Bundle offers and cosmetic promotions should be assessed separately from the standalone game's purchase price.
